• Can I take a summer class while completing the internship?
    • No. During the course of the 8-week summer internship program students are expected to work full time (40 hours per week) and should not have other extensive time commitments such as summer classes (online or in-person) that may interfere with their work schedule.

  • Is the internship paid?
    • Yes. Undergraduates will receive $3,000 and medical students will receive $3,500, which will be paid out in two installments. The first installment will take place mid-way through the program and the second installment will be given upon completion of all program requirements (e.g. submission of internship deliverables, completion of all evaluations, etc.).

  • Can I apply for the internship at both sites?
    • Yes. However it is important to note that the SPIRIT-CHD Summer Internship Program at LSUHSC and Moffitt do not provide housing or housing stipends to students. Students are responsible for their own accommodations while participating in this program.

  • I am a high school senior. Am I eligible to apply for the internship?
    • No. At this time, the SPIRIT-CHD summer internship program is only open to currently enrolled undergraduate and medical school students.

  • I just graduated this past summer or spring. Am I eligible to apply?
    • No. In order to be eligible students must be enrolled at the time of application submission. Students are not eligible if they graduate before the start of the internship.

  • What is the time commitment for the summer internship?
    • The SPIRIT-CHD summer internship is a full-time program (40 hours per week). While individual student schedules may vary based on lab placement, students typically work Monday - Friday for 8 hours per day.
