2018 LSUHSC SPIRIT-CHD Summer Intern, Joussette Alvarado, hard at work in the lab. Joussette's research focused on differential gene expression according to ancestry in Hispanic/Latina Women with Luminal B Breast Cancer.

Charity Sylvester is a medical student at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Under the mentorship of Dr. Arnold Zea, PhD, her research focused on L-arginine in the regulation of NOS2 expression to overcome renal cell carcinoma tumor growth. 

 

Lakia Williams' summer research project focused on the development of genetic assays for the surveillance of HPV 90 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This past summer Lakia worked under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Cameron, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Jonte Ellison presented her summer research at the 11th American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved. Jonte's summer research project focused on determining risk factors for anal dysplasia in HIV+ individuals.

This year three LSUHSC SPIRIT-CHD Summer Interns had abstracts accepted to the 11th AACR Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved in New Orleans, Louisiana. Below are pictures from their poster presentation sessions.

Adrienne Murphy, a medical student at LSU, tied for first place for her poster presentation at Medical Student Research Day.
